Hello, im noob :)

Re: Comments and Lastest Build Updates

Build 90:

-Upgraded entire project to use .NET 4.0 (with 2.0 legacy for DirectX9)
-Fixed out of boundary exception when you search looking down or up at the map border
-Battle: Made some fonts larger, made damage counter start higher so you can see it better
-Drawing issues: On my Windows 7, 64bit AMD QuadCore I dont see any drawing issues anymore. No clipping or sluggishness. So I will not try and optimize anymore.

Build 89:

-(Build 88 was released 2 years ago, forgot what was updated in that).
-Made title screen more clear
-Upgraded entire project from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5
-Fixed form load flickering! Uses a tiny bit more CPU but worth it.
-Added "click" sound for many more options when you click on them
-Minor code optimizations
-Item screen reshows items left now

by Issa » Wed Aug 01, 2007

Latest build, 0.87, was released. Probably will be a while until I do some more updates. Find me bugs until then! (Note: I know some areas arent done, dont worry about that, also dont worry if you dont get the right exp or the descriptions dont show correctly for tournaments, its not done.)

by Issa » Fri Jul 27, 2007

I plan to release the next build in a few days...unfortunately it will be the last update for a very long time as I will become busy once again. But rest assured I will get the game done one day.

Whats left to do before version 1.0:

Fine tune all the chicken abilities and stats
Fine tune all the trainer abilities
Fine tune every tournament
Add music
Add bosses to gain medals and final boss
Update all areas for chicken catching
Make ending
Update help file and how too
Finalize map

What may be added after version 1.0 (if a lot of people like the game and motivate me)

Make each opponent unique so they use a certain chicken and their chickens have special stats
Add more equipment to buy for chickens
Allow you to customize your trainer

The intro lacks sprites for the second screen. (Joe)
I was not able to recreate this bug, I saw the intro just fine, can you please explain what sprite did not show on the second screen?

by Issa » Tue Jul 17, 2007

Bob_stew:

I was not able to recreate the bug where when you attack it shows two messages, I see one. Can you please give me more information? Are you sure you are seeing two? Maybe you are seeing the opponents and yours at the same time.

Also, dont worry about help file issues right now, its not done and I dont plan to finish it until the game is completed. I might even just get rid of it and tell people to use the in game tutorial instead.

by Issa » Tue Jul 17, 2007

Build 87:

-Fixed crash bug when you have 12 chickens and encounter a random chicken battle
-Mountains town, battle, and area done
-Fixed autodraw bug when selecting a new area
-Fixed bug where Haste ability from a Hero (such as Ryu) would not take effect again when the speed bar reset
-Fixed select area locations for some places that were wrong
-Added message when you try to capture a chicken from an encounter and you are full with chickens instead of having nothing happen
-Forest town, battle, and area done
-Mines town, battle, and area done
-Buying items now updates cash label
-Fixed crash bug when sound is disabled
-Finally finished adding all the opponents, phew!
-Fixed bug where opponent status panel becomes invisible during battle
-Added more abilities to status panel when casted
-Fixed damage label when healing, shows "+ 1" instead of "+ -1"
-Fixed link on title screen to go to my site

by Issa » Fri Jun 29, 2007

Thanks, I will look into them! I love getting bug reports, it makes me motivated! I promise I will work on the game in July and get a build out, I have some time.

by Bob_stew » Fri Jun 29, 2007

Hey Issa. I haven't forgotten you.

Bug reports (build 81):

- Ryu's speed enhancing ability only works for the first attack of each battle.

- When damage exceeds 1, the messages below the health bars (Oh Noes, Wham! etc.) get messed up both in number and type.

Example:

My chicken hits for more than 1 dmg. Two messages spawn:

Oh Noes!
Wham!

- The help file still says "chicken fighter 2005".

- The intro lacks sprites for the second screen. (Joe)

I am not sure what I would need, I would perfer to do all the coding myself from this point since theres no "new" code that needs to be written, just finishing up, and it would be hard to explain what needs to be finishing, its all in my head. If it was a new project I wouldnt mind the help. Thank you though.

In other news, I have been working on CF, it will be done someday, right now I am currently finishing up the map and tournaments. Next month I will have a good two weeks of coding time to put in so expect a release next month.

by a person... » Sun Jun 10, 2007

Do you want any help with the coding? I have some experience with C# and VB.NET and might be able to do some stuff over the summer.

by Not a Vampire » Mon Mar 19, 2007

Yippee!! Just checked your page! Glad you're back coding. I've downloaded the latest build and will get back to you with any bugs.

by HendoTheGreat » Thu Jan 25, 2007

No problem! I don't have anything better to do in the Holidays and afternoons. Also, why don't you like mapping? It's easy. XD
Just annoying eh?
Anywho, better get back to the mapping. And you better get back to programming. >=]

by Issa » Thu Jan 25, 2007

Just you, I dont want tons of hands in it. Thanks for helping with the map, it sucks drawing everything, I need to code not draw.

Map Update

by HendoTheGreat » Wed Jan 24, 2007

Ok, so far I've put some of the insides of the Snow Village buildings and I've done some mountain/caves. Also, Issa... Who else is working on the map? Or is it just me?
Anyway, I'll post regularly to inform you all of how the map is going.

New Chicken Fighters released today! Get testing!

Build 81:

-Fixed Drain ability so it gives back HP now
-Fixed minor issue with Regen ability when opponent uses it
-Bug Fix: You can now load a game without an error if you have 12 chickens
-Breeding Chickens: All chickens start at level 1 now, also theres a possibility you will only get an egg!
-Bug Fix: Picking up chests above/below you now work
-Bug Fix: Crash when creating report with 0 chickens
-Chicken Fighters 2005 is now Chicken Fighters 2007!
-Cosmetic changes throughout the game screens to make them look a lot nicer then before
-Bug Fix: Fixed two bugs where if you didnt have a chicken you will get a notice that said your chicken died when walking or capturing chickens
-Installer now included for the game that will install all the directX files and shortcuts. It will also download .NET if you need it.

by Issa » Wed Jan 24, 2007

Also ... you can't change the options for midi and sound from within - it gives and error. I was able to do it from the ini, though.
I was also not able to recreate this, can you please give me more info please?

Also, your starting chicken is suppose to start with one ability.

by Issa » Wed Jan 24, 2007

Also, in one of the houses in the first town there is a lovely never-ending supply of free seeds in a desk. Fun, but presumably a bug.
I am not able to recreate this, can you please give me more information? Perhaps a screen shot?

by Issa » Wed Jan 24, 2007

perhaps you could have an option for turn-based - pause the game
I looked into this, its easy to do but hard to make perfect because of how I wrote the code. I think its too much work so I will not be doing it, but I will keep thinking about it for an easier solution if possible.

by Issa » Mon Jan 22, 2007

I have decided that I am going to try and look at the Chicken Fighters code again and maybe finish it. The game is so close to being finished, 80-85%, I just cant leave it. I wont promise anything but I will promise tonight I will look at my code and perhaps do something!

I need help with the map though!

hmmm

by Renlang » Mon Jan 15, 2007

a pause button (pause the whole gameplay) would be spffy, cuz i goto do chores very often :P and CURSE YOUR HUMAN VERIFICATION SYSTEM! i feel like being a homunculus right now >:O

LINK

by RENLANG » Mon Jan 15, 2007

STUPID HUMAN VERIFICATION THING! anyways, your link to the NETCF is for 1.1, we need 2.0 or higher.

One last one ...

by Not a Vampire » Fri May 26, 2006

The spell Drain doesn't seem to work as described - it does damage the opponent, but doesn't give my chickie back any health.

not a problem

by Not a Vampire » Fri May 26, 2006

I gathered you are spending most of your time on the lovely new RPG. I didn't expect instant bugfixes!! That new game looks ever so nice - can't wait for the first version!

by Issa » Thu May 25, 2006

I think I might be able to add a pause not sure, I can always pause the speed bar. I will think about it. Right now Chicken Fighters is on the backburner so I'm not really working on it. Obviously it was suppose to be done by last year but its not, just havent had time.

got that, thanks

by Not a Vampire » Thu May 25, 2006

Yeah, I noticed the arrow keys & the ESC. I'm one of those wierdos that actually read help docs. I'm just not always allowed to use the keyboard, depending on whether Nessie-the-supposed-to-be-toy-poodle-but-really-mini and/or Neffie-the-equally-rapidly-growing-Tonkinese-kitten are requiring my chest as a resting place. (Nephie is short for Nefarious Purr-puss).

by Issa » Thu May 25, 2006

You can use the keyboard to navigate through the menus too. Also ESC will do autobattle. Thanks for the bug finds I'll look into it.

More bugs - lucky you! (sarcasm)

by Not a Vampire » Thu May 25, 2006

Three more I forgot:

Once you have gone into a desert cave, Dark chickies show up in the desert as well as the cave. Not sure if this is supposed to happen...

When fighting another chook, the name on the right hand side and the one used in the middle text area are different.

If you have 12 chickens, you can save the game, but when you try to load it again it gives an error. Maybe an array of 0 - 11 instead of 1 - 12?

Thanks again for writing such a spiffy hot damn game. I also enjoyed CF2000 and 2002, while we're on the subject. Just a thought - perhaps you could have an option for turn-based - pause the game when it gets to your chicken's go, then resume. The new battles are so fast (which is great, no complaints), but sometimes it's hard to get the mouse clicks in quickly.

by Issa » Wed May 24, 2006

Cool thanks for the comments dude! I will see about all the bugs and fix them.

Just some bugs for 0.80

by Not a Vampire » Wed May 24, 2006

Noticed that the chickens seem to have opponents depending on their position in the list - Chickie 1's opponents use Jump, then even numbered chickens get fireball & snowball, while odd numbered chickies don't seem to get any spells chucked at them at all.

Also, in one of the houses in the first town there is a lovely never-ending supply of free seeds in a desk. Fun, but presumably a bug.

And ... if you sell your first chickie and then go searching for a new one, it keeps telling you that your chickie has kicked the bucket on every step once you get into the desert area. Somewhat annoying.

I noticed that if you use auto-repeat on the arrow keys to walk around, the game slows heaps, the further you travel. If, on the other hand, you type the keys individually (but you can type them fast) the game stays at the same speed.

Also ... you can't change the options for midi and sound from within - it gives and error. I was able to do it from the ini, though.

And ... the first chickie you get only has one skill.

I LOVE this game - there don't seem to be many like it. Just Coliseum and Pokemon Battle Simulator. Oh, probably Battles of Norghan too, but it won't run on my laptop. snarl.

I also LOVE the Demon's Mantras, too. Can't wait for your new extravaganza of masterly RPG gaming!

by Issa » Sat Apr 29, 2006

Thats the one I'm calling my next game I dunno what it'll be. MMORPG or whatever.

by Eco Master » Sat Apr 29, 2006

But its the one that you are calling an MMORPG right now, right?

by Issa » Sat Apr 29, 2006

It could be MMORPG or single not sure yet.

by Eco Master » Sat Apr 29, 2006

Oh. Well, go right ahead with the new game.

The new game you're reffereing to is the MMORPG right?

by Issa » Sat Apr 29, 2006

I dont know, the drawing code is horrible. My new game has 3 layers and its 500 by 500 wide. It takes 20 seconds to draw the entire world. In Chicken fighters it has 1 layer and its about 400 by 300 wide, it takes about 3 minutes to draw the entire world! Its slow I know, its the code, I could fix it but why bother wasting my time you know.

by Eco Master » Sat Apr 29, 2006

Any reason why my dude is walking slower?

by Eco Master » Fri Apr 21, 2006

Oh, gotcha.

by Issa » Thu Apr 20, 2006

No it happens when you enter the tournament. The person you fight could be the boss holding the medal.

by Eco Master » Thu Apr 20, 2006

So what you're saying is that I just run around in the castle to get the random event(hopefully)?

by Issa » Thu Apr 13, 2006

Build 80:

-Title Screen redone
-Castle added
-Bug Fix: Trainer abilities were not being set at all when starting a new game! How did I not see that before!
-Optimized all the code by changing And to AndAlso, and Or to OrElse to cut CPU times. Change "A = A +" references to "A +=" to optimize memory usage. Changed Me.Close to Me.Dispose in most areas to clean up memory. Overall the game is faster now and it cut the exe by 200k, also I notice its using less memory.
-All music (previously it was just sound effects) use DirectX 9 now, which means no more MediaPlayer crap to deal with! Much cleaner and faster and less dll's to install!
-Volcano added
-Bug Fix: Fixed the code to finally get rid of this subscript out of range error that sometimes occurs when you hit cancel on the tournament screen
-Bug Fix: Fixed bug which caused opponent never to use a special attack
-Battle: Changed cooldowns for special abilities, instead of them all ending in 30 seconds, some end sooner like hide ability works for 10 seconds
-Added the first medal: Basically medals are won by random encounters. There are three medals and they are each carried by three chicken fighters. One medal is found in the Castle, and there is a one in 50 chance encounter to battle the fighter who carries it, he is hard, but if you beat him you get the medal!

by Issa » Fri Feb 24, 2006

Microsoft's website.

by Bobstew » Fri Feb 24, 2006

When I try to run the game, I get an error saying that I need to install a specific version of .NET Framework.

Where can I get it? :S

Re: CF2K5

by Nippz » Sat Feb 04, 2006

Not to mention that you need to have a save editor like you had in CF2K2... That was awesome. I took a lvl 1 chicken with 0 xp, and raised everything to max in editor. When I was done, I had 74 speed 90 Attack, etc...Ridiculous really, I easily beat out the castle in about 5 hits... MWUAHA HA HA HA HA HA
I dont think thats going to be in a build, i think you'd have to wait till the game is done. Even so... why woudl you want to cheat the game?

Its not going to be, nobody gets accounts, I already explained that in another forum. Its disabled, need to get rid of the links.

Wellsirs, I got me a new username, it's being verified right now..{tjhombre(Chicken Fighter)} The old one was TJ BAILEY(Chicken Lovah)

So, how are you supposed to start/complete the Robotic chicken quest?

Oh yeah, you oughta make the DEMON chickens look like this....... ,

by Issa » Mon Jan 30, 2006

Yea, you "get" to an area when you talk to the tournament lady. Then you can return to that exact spot at a later time. I dunno what island you are referring too, remember map isnt done so its probably you cant get to it anyway.
